Ms. K – Tacoma Boudoir Photographer

Tell us about you, anything you want to share. How old are you? What do you do for a living? Etc.

I recently turned 28 and have lived in Washington i my whole life, while growing up on a horse farm in Maple Valley. I live with my husband, two Mini Aussies and our cat Tiger Lily. I have been a Dental Assistant for going on 10 years now where I have worked as a Pediatric Dental Assistant, and now I work for a large practice that is associated with the Swedish Dental Residency. When I am not working you can find me at Disneyland or with my fur babies.

Tell us about everything that lead up to your session. This could be a story about your past that you want to share. Also, things like; What made you decide to do a boudoir session? Did you have any fears about boudoir photography going into your session?

I have always loved seeing beautiful women do their boudoir shoots and always said I want to do that someday when I am skinny. I am bigger girl and lack the self confidence of loving myself and my body. I struggle with something called PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and it doesn’t help with the way I see myself. It causes me to have higher/ lower hormones then I need that cause so many things. As I have grown up I have noticed more symptoms. It makes it hard to lose weight, but easy to gain, hair loss as well as hair growth in areas that you don’t want it. It can also cause mental symptoms like depression, anxiety, mood swings. But the worst that I have been struggling with is Infertility. I have struggled with knowing that I might have issues having kids when I was ready but It has been worse then I expected. My husband have been married for 5 years and we have been trying for 4 years. When I was about to start my most recent fertility treatment cycle was days after I signed my contract for my shoot. I Really wanted to do something to see myself in a different light, get over the “I will do it when I am skinny” feeling, push myself to do something VERY out of my comfort zone, And it was a perfect surprise anniversary gift for my husband.

Tell us about your session! Was the session different from what you expected it to be? What was the best part of your session? What were you feeling and thinking when you first saw your photographs? What did doing this shoot do for your self confidence, self worth, and self image? Tell me your story.

So my shoot was 2 weeks after I scheduled it, Didn’t have a lot of time to get outfits or get ready. But Ayla was easy to work with and willing to let me pick outfits with her day of shoot if needed. I Looked up and down for outfits off Amazon( because Covid has made it insane to get deliveries fast). Being a big girl with a long torso is a joke! But after a couple major shopping sprees I was able to find a couple things. I have never worn a body suit, but I followed Ayla’s recommendations and loved the way it looked! We ended up using both my outfits I bought, as well as we were able to use my Husbands high school baseball jersey. What was awesome is you can bring a plus one! I brought my best friend as my security blanket cause I was nervous. But we started with hair and make up and talk about random stuff with everyone so it breaks the ice. I also appreciated that Rob was so professional I thought it would be awkward from a man to be there for the shoot but he made it even better! When we got started Ayla gives you step by step instructions and also showed you what you are going to do. My favorite part is when she just yells “ ROB!” And he will say something funny or laugh and I just but out laughing. The shoot is so fast you have no time to realize what your doing until its over. Once you are done they go through everything and the photos with you. I was blown away with what I was looking at. The photos aren’t even edited and I was loving them! It was crazy to see myself that way, I don’t ever see myself as this beautiful, sexy women that I was seeing in these pictures. My friend was perfect for this part because she would be my second set of eyes that weren’t as judgmental on myself as I am, and would see things differently then I would . But the hardest part is picking out your package.

The nitty-gritty! Any advice you would give to other women when thinking about their boudoir session? What products did you order and what did you think about them when you received them? How did you like working with Ayla and the team?

DO IT!, You won’t regret having a shoot. Spend the money on yourself that you deserve. I love my photos and products, everything is so beautifully made I wish I had these types of products from my wedding photographer! Ayla and the team is amazing. They are all so talented, Amanda did a fantastic job on my hair and make up. And Ayla and Rob do such a great job from start to end making you feel comfortable as well as beautiful while making it fun. I love that they work together to get the best shots!

If you were going to write a review for us, what would you say?

Hands down love Ayla and the team. Was beyond blown away with everything, and only wish I had done more. I didn’t think after my shoot I would want to another, but I want so many now that I see all the things they are even doing a couple months later! Trying to convince my husband to do a shoot with me! Thank you for everything <3

Share the love!
